Kirtan 2012

There is a great deal of propaganda that something dramatic will happen on 21st Dec 2012 and maybe the world will end...?

But we have information from the Vedic scriptures about the nature of this material world. Very extensive information is given about the cycles this world goes through over and over again. These cycles repeat, just like every year we have the four seasons. The cycle of the seasons repeats over and over again. Similarly the cycle of the four ages or yugas also repeats over and over again. As we know each of the seasons will last for three months and then the next season will start these four ages or yugas also repeat in a very systematic way.

There are four yugas, Satya-yuga - the golden age, lasting 1,728,000 years; Treta-yuga - the silver age, lasting 1,296,000 years; Dvapara-yuga - the bronze age, lasting 864,000 years; and finally Kali-yuga - the iron age of machines and quarrel, lasting 432,000 years.

We are in the final age, Kali-yuga. But we have just started Kali-yuga. This age will last for 432,000 years and so far we have only passed 5,000 years of it. So that means that Kali-yuga still has another 427,000 years to run!

Every day, every hour, every minute, every second somewhere in the world someone dies. Death is for sure for any living entity. So for some, 2012 may well be the end of the world for them

However, this death is only of the material body and the soul is eternal. But we can stop this cycle of birth and death by connecting to our spiritual nature inside of us. The chanting of

reawakens our spiritual nature giving us eternal spiritual bliss, making us conscious that we are eternal spirit souls full of bliss and knowledge. So by chanting this maha mantra we can free our selves from this cycle of birth, death, old age, disease and detach ourselves from this material nature which the cause of the 3 types of miseries we experience and transcend ourselves to the spiritual nature, our natural constitutional position.

On THURSDAY 20th December 2012 at ISKCON COVENTRY 8pm onwards devotees shall spend the evening chanting and singing this mahamantra in kirtan. We request you all to join us and become from all anxiety! We shall be sincerely praying that we are done with this material nature and wish the material world which keeps us away from Krishna will end within each and every one of us and pray that our attatchment to the spiritual world will start in the new year ahead !

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
